After School Program
Children Make Their Own Choice of the Afternoon Activity They Will Participate In!
Kids Junction’s After-School Program is like no other! We have certified teachers with various college degrees instructing children in their daily activities. All children make their own choice of the afternoon activity they will participate in. Choices include: Cooking, Sports, Drama, Dance, Yoga, Arts and Crafts, Foreign Languages (Spanish and French), Science and Nature, Woodworking and Music. Specialty workshops, such as Jewelry making, Karate classes, Keyboard lessons, Photography, Clay works, Gymnastics, etc… are also offered throughout the year. In the summer, we offer swimming lessons in our above ground, heated pool that is licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
Here is what our day looks like:
- The children are picked up by our staff at the Public Schools and transported directly to Kids Junction. Upon arrival, the children are served snack and then go outdoors to play on our state-of-the-art playground.
- 3:20 PM – The children gather in our large gym to listen to what activities the teachers will be offering for the first activity period. The children make their choices and go with their teacher to the room the activity will be held in. (Example: Cooking = Kitchen)
- 3:30 – 4:10 PM - 1st Activity Period
- 4:10 – 4:15 PM - The children regroup in the large gym to listen to what activities will be offered for the next activity.
- 4:15 – 5:00 PM – 2nd Activity Period
- 5:00 – 6:00 PM – Organized free play (Games with teachers, outdoor play, etc.)
We also offer “Homework Club” in which parents choose an activity period for their child to do their homework assignments or read. (This is a great opportunity for children to get their homework done before their town sponsored soccer or baseball game!) Our 4th and 5th Graders make up our “Kids Club”. One of our teachers works solely with these children. Since many of the children have been with us before, we offer to them special activities and privileges. They go on monthly field trips after school and always return back to Kids Junction before we close for the night.
